The minimalist commuter kit: what we actually carry
Five people from the Kova team empty their bags. Here’s what made the cut, and what didn’t.

We asked five people at Kova to empty their bags on the table. Despite very different jobs and commutes, their kits looked surprisingly alike.
The essentials everyone carried
- A laptop in a padded, suspended sleeve
- Earbuds for the train and calls
- A 750 ml bottle, refilled twice a day
- A small pouch for cables and a charger
What got left at home
Nobody carried a second charger, spare notebook or “just in case” umbrella anymore. A lighter bag turned out to be the best upgrade of all.
Our advice
Empty your bag once a month. If something hasn’t been used in four weeks, it probably doesn’t need to come with you.
